The Soroptimist Welfare Association (SWA) in association with the Women Development Cell (WDC) of Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous), Rasayani organised a Yoga Shivir on June 24, 2025 to celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day 2025.
The objectives of the Yoga Shivir were :
- To introduce students to the fundamentals of traditional yogic practices.
- To teach basic yoga asanas (poses) and their benefits.
- To promote awareness of the importance of mindfulness and relaxation techniques.
- To inspire students to incorporate yoga into their daily routine for overall health.
The Yoga Shivir organized for students aimed to introduce and deepen their understanding of yoga as a holistic practice for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It was a fun and interactive session, enlightening students about the importance of yoga in day-to-day life.
The Shivir was facilitated by experienced yoga instructors who guided participants through various yoga techniques and principles. Techniques for cultivating mindfulness through guided meditation sessions were taught, focusing on relaxation and mental clarity. Practical sessions where students learned and practiced basic asanas such as Tadasana (Mountain pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra pose), and Shavasana (Corpse pose). Emphasis was placed on correct posture, breathing techniques (Pranayama), and alignment.
The Yoga Shivir for students was a resounding success in achieving its objectives of introducing yoga as a lifestyle practice beneficial for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The session received a positive response from the participants. A total of 500 participants made this event a huge success.
The session was aligned with Goal 3 (Good health and well-being) of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
