Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science & Commerce along with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Faculty of Arts jointly organised a One Day National Conference on “Textual and Visual Evidence of Exploration in Travel Literature” on 24th March, 2021.

The conference focused on exploring, discovering and understanding textual and visual evidence in travel writing recorded across the globe as its a unique genre that brings alive experiences of various travellers in the essence of illustrations, historical backgrounds, etc.

Dr. Manjiree Atul Vaidya, Head of Amity School of Languages, Amity University, graced the conference as the Keynote speaker. Dr. Lata Menon addressed the conference and the anchor, Mr. Linu George gave the welcome speech and introduced the keynote speaker to all the participants.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Manjiree Atul Vaidya, an active researcher in the field of digital literature, innovation in English language and Literature, Linguistics, Comparative literature, Indian English literature, etc. addressed the conference and briefed about travel literature, its progress over the years and the impact of technology and social media on the same.

Ms. Kalavati Upadhyay, announced the commencing of the technical session for the presentation of research papers. Mr. Priyesh Keekan, presented his research paper titled ‘The Journey of an Orient Wizard from the Vault of the Past: Faxian (The Chinese Traveller)’. He led the participants through the journey of Faxian from China to India and back to China again. His paper explored and highlighted the dedication to transport some of the finest Buddhist scriptures from India to China and the difficulties one faced in the process.

Dr. Pradnyashailee Bhagwan Sawai presented her research paper titled ‘A review of Travel Writings in India’. The paper explored the spheres of travel writing in a multicultural country like India.

Ms. Disha Chotaliya, proposed a vote of thanks. It was followed by the rendition of the National Anthem which indicated the formal culmination of the one day Conference.
