Event Overview:
The NSS Unit of Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani, in collaboration with the Soroptimist Welfare Association (SWA), organized a special training session titled “Fearless You: A Self Defence Training Session for Women.” On the occasion of NSS Foundation Day, the session was held to empower young women with practical self-defence skills, boost their confidence, and prepare them to handle challenging situations with courage and resilience. The initiative also supported the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Program Flow and Activities:
The session began with an introduction on the importance of self-defence, highlighting safety, awareness, and confidence.
The training was led by Mr. Subhash Patil from the Raigad Taekwondo Association and his team, who demonstrated different attacking and defending techniques. Students practiced punches, strikes, and release methods to safeguard themselves in unsafe situations. The session was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from students, creating an empowering atmosphere. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, as participants felt more prepared and confident after the training.
Role of NSS Volunteers:
NSS volunteers played a vital role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the training. They helped with registration, managed seating and arrangements, coordinated with the resource persons, and provided on-ground support to participants during the practice sessions. Their teamwork and discipline contributed to the overall success of the program.
Leadership and Guidance:
The session was organized under the guidance of NSS Program Officers Ms. Kalavati Upadhyay and Ms. Anita Mhatre, whose encouragement and leadership helped achieve the program’s objectives. Special appreciation goes to Mr. Subhash Patil and his team from the Raigad Taekwondo Association for delivering an impactful session that motivated participants to believe in their strength and resilience.
Conclusion:
With over 150 participants, the “Fearless You” training session was both inspiring and impactful. It empowered young women with self-defence skills, boosted their confidence, and promoted the spirit of gender equality and safety. Beyond physical techniques, the program instilled belief in one’s own strength, marking a strong step toward building a confident and fearless generation of women.
