The NSS volunteer Vishal Yadav of Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous), Rasayani, participated in the prestigious AVHAN Chancellor’s Brigade: NSS Training Camp on Disaster Management held at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. This state-level camp serves as a rigorous training platform to develop a dedicated cadre of first responders within the student community. This significant achievement was attained under the leadership and expert guidance of NSS Program Officer Dr. Anil Zende, whose constant mentorship continues to drive the NSS Unit’s success.

  • The first day focuses on registration, orientation, and setting the foundation. After registrations and an inaugural ceremony, participants are introduced to disaster management concepts, the role of NDRF, and personal safety. The day includes a case study on landslide rescue, disaster survival skills, and do’s & don’ts during disasters. It ends with games, dinner, and light activities to help participants settle in.
  • Day two is skill-intensive and medically focused. It begins with physical training and yoga, followed by lectures and practical sessions on EMS, patient assessment, and life-saving techniques like BLS-CPR/FBAD. Search and rescue case studies, bleeding control, and wound care are practiced hands-on. The day balances theory, practical drills, and physical conditioning.
  • The third day emphasizes rescue movement techniques and water emergency preparedness. Participants learn musculoskeletal injury management, lifting and carrying methods, and dead body management. Later, they begin water-body emergency exposure, including improvised flotation devices and life-saving skills during floods or water accidents, followed by return and debrief sessions.
  • Day four covers advanced rescue techniques and disaster safety. Case Study-III focuses on flood water rescue, followed by fire emergency response and extinguisher use. Participants learn knots, hitches, harness usage, and safety equipment through theory and practical sessions. The day concludes with detailed overviews of CBRN disasters—chemical, biological, and radiological emergencies.
  • The fifth day is dedicated to high-rise rescue operations. After physical training, participants attend technical theory sessions and extensive practical drills. A full high-rise rescue demonstration is conducted, allowing participants to observe real-world application of rescue strategies, equipment handling, and team coordination.
  • The sixth day begins with written tests followed by result announcements. Practical tests are conducted in multiple sessions to evaluate hands-on skills learned throughout the program. The day also includes Dipotsav celebrations, relaxation activities, and a formal dinner, marking the completion of evaluations.
  • The final day is ceremonial and reflective. It starts with physical activity, breakfast, and a formal procession. Participants conclude the program with return journeys, lunch, and the closing ceremony, which includes prize distribution and felicitation of the NDRF team, officially ending AVHAN-2025.
