From ancient roots of culture, India has seen a multi-diversity in its monumental aspects. This richness has paved the way for many of India’s architectural testaments to establish their hold among the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Indian rulers, whether indigenous or based on foreign lands, were patrons of architecture, and that interest is reflected through their erections. From the erections of the Mauryans to the British masterpieces, especially of the latter, as seen in our ‘City of Dreams – Mumbai’ itself, is an epitome of architectural excellence and dominance.

Architectural studies in India have evolved so much with time, enabling courses for individuals that help them emerge as architects. The Bachelor of Architecture, commonly known as the B.Arch, is a full-fledged five-year undergraduate program with 10 semesters. This UG program equips an individual to design buildings and other structures, combining their inputs of art, science, and technology by adding their innovative ideas and aesthetic appeals to be brought to life. This program serves as a foundation for those who seek their career in architectural designs and related aspects of thinking. Further studies in architecture include M.Arch, which focuses on the practicalities of the structural constructions. This helps them gain advanced knowledge on designing and building monuments and structures. After completing the two-year M.Arch program, they can further pursue their expertise in research related to architecture through a PhD in what they aim to specialize in.

Architectural studies in India are now gaining widespread recognition, as students look forward to making their future prospects in this field due to the new emerging trends of sustainability, use of technologies like BIM (Building Information Modelling), focus on green building practices, 3D printing, and soaring global reach.
