Event Overview:

The NSS Unit of Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science, and Commerce(Autonomous),Rasayani organized an Anti-Plastic Awareness Rally with the objective of sensitizing the local community towards the harmful effects of single-use plastic and promoting the adoption of sustainable alternatives. This initiative was part of the unit’s ongoing efforts to promote social responsibility, environmental awareness, and community engagement among students and the wider public.

Program Flow and Activities:

The program began with a briefing for volunteers by the supervising professors before the rally was flagged off. The rally, which travelled from the college to Mhopada market and surrounding areas, targeted locations with a high public presence. To raise awareness, volunteers carried banners and posters with impactful slogans and messages against plastic use.

Throughout the rally, volunteers chanted slogans like “Say No to Plastic” to draw the attention of shopkeepers, residents, and passersby, effectively spreading the message of environmental conservation. A key part of the event was the distribution of cloth bags to vendors in the market, providing a practical alternative to plastic.

Role of NSS Volunteers:

The active participation of NSS volunteers was the cornerstone of the rally’s success. They contributed through disciplined coordination, enthusiastic slogan-chanting, and responsible distribution of cloth bags. The volunteers’ sincerity, energy, and collective spirit reflected the values of service and leadership promoted by the NSS, while also ensuring that the activity had a visible and lasting impact on the people of Mhopada.

Leadership and Guidance:

The event was conducted under the guidance of NSS Program Officers Ms. Kalavati Upadhyay and Ms. Anita Mhatre, who played a pivotal role in planning, supervising, and motivating the volunteers throughout the activity. Their instructions prior to the rally ensured discipline and order, while their presence during the program added credibility and authority to the message being communicated.
