Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with Department of Physics and Nature Club of Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani organized an International Webinar to commemorate World Environment Day on 15th June, 2020. The objective of the event was to create awareness about the paramount significance of environment in our lives, even more so, during the challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic.
Our college is organized the webinar as a part of the Golden Jubilee Year of Mahatma Education Society. The International Webinar was titled “Seismic Hazards Assessment: Predictions and Challenges for a Safe Environment”. The resource person for the day was Dr. Mahesh N. Shrivastava, Asst. Professor, Northern Catholic University and Investigator at National Research Centre for Integrated Natural Disaster Management, Chile, South America. The event flagged off with Prof. Ashvini Satve, Convenor of Nature Club warmly welcoming the delegates. She introduced the guest of honour and briefed the participants on his extensive and elaborate list of achievements. Our resource person presented an in-depth analysis on the seismic waves, its predictability and its effects on environment. He substantiated the concepts with examples of natural calamities recorded in different parts of the world and focused on Indian scenario on the same. The central idea was environment and its safeguarding process to be initiated in such desperate time and protect nature for survival of humanity. The presentation was followed by open discussion, where participants clarified their queries. Prof. Remya Madan Gopal, on behalf of IQAC, proposed the vote of thanks to the speaker, delegates and entire team of staff members for their participation and cooperation to conclude the session.
The event was organized on Google Meet platform and was streaming live in YouTube channel of MES. The event received an overwhelming response with 423 registrations from all over the globe and 732 viewers for YouTube live streaming. The participants included faculty members, research scholars and students. About 300 participants provided excellent feedback for the event and expressed their willingness to attend more in similar line. The webinar was highly informative and engaging, all thanks to excellent content delivery by the speaker.
