Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in association with Department of Physics and Nature Club of Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani organized an International Webinar to commemorate World Environment Day on 15th June, 2020. The objective of the event was to create awareness about the paramount significance of environment in our lives, even more so, during the challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic.

Our college is organized the webinar as a part of the Golden Jubilee Year of Mahatma Education Society. The International Webinar was titled “Seismic Hazards Assessment: Predictions and Challenges for a Safe Environment”. The resource person for the day was Dr. Mahesh N. Shrivastava, Asst. Professor, Northern Catholic University and Investigator at National Research Centre for Integrated Natural Disaster Management, Chile, South America. The event flagged off with Prof. Ashvini Satve, Convenor of Nature Club warmly welcoming the delegates. She introduced the guest of honour and briefed the participants on his extensive and elaborate list of achievements. Our resource person presented an in-depth analysis on the seismic waves, its predictability and its effects on environment. He substantiated the concepts with examples of natural calamities recorded in different parts of the world and focused on Indian scenario on the same. The central idea was environment and its safeguarding process to be initiated in such desperate time and protect nature for survival of humanity. The presentation was followed by open discussion, where participants clarified their queries. Prof. Remya Madan Gopal, on behalf of IQAC, proposed the vote of thanks to the speaker, delegates and entire team of staff members for their participation and cooperation to conclude the session.

The event was organized on Google Meet platform and was streaming live in YouTube channel of MES. The event received an overwhelming response with 423 registrations from all over the globe and 732 viewers for YouTube live streaming. The participants included faculty members, research scholars and students. About 300 participants provided excellent feedback for the event and expressed their willingness to attend more in similar line. The webinar was highly informative and engaging, all thanks to excellent content delivery by the speaker.

Department of Chemistry in collaboration with IQAC has organised e poster making competition on 6th to 8th June, 2020 to celebrate World Environmental Day.

The theme of competition was Time for Nature.

There were total 24 posters were submitted. Participants from different states had submitted posters in the form of handmade posters, posters made through paint (PC).

Best three posters were selected based on Relevance, Creativity, Uniqueness, Originality criteria.

Departments of Information Technology and Computer Science in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce (PHCASC) organized a Two Days FDP on “Remote Teaching and Learning – Challenges and Solutions” on 29th and 30th May, 2020 for teaching staff of all disciplines. This programme oriented to provide the knowledge on various online tools that can be used to conduct online lectures for students. The resource persons for the event were Ms. Rajeshri Aneesh, Asst. Professor, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani and Ms. Babitha Bhagat, Asst. Professor, Pillai HOC College of Engineering and Technology, Rasayani.

A total of 102 teaching staff members participated in the event. E–Certificates were provided to all the participants.

Poster Competition on “Recent Innovations in Science”

The Poster Competition conducted jointly by Departments of Physics / Chemistry and Mathematics on Tuesday, 13th August, 2019 at 1st Floor in the College at Pillai HOCL Campus, Rasayani, Panvel.

Total of 20 Students from the departments of Physics / Chemistry and Mathematics had participated in the competition. The topic given to students was – “Recent Innovations in Science”. The essence of the topic was to update the knowledge of the participants regarding the innovations in the field of science on regular basis.

The program was conducted by the “Science Club” under the Convenorship of Prof. Sumit Kokane and the Co-Convener of the competition was Mrs. Archana Bhagwat. The Chairperson for the Competition was Mr. Binit Kumar, Vice-Principal, Pillai HOCL.

There were total of 10 groups who had participated in the competition. The winner of the competition was the group from First year B.Sc. whose members were Ms. Tanvi Atawane, Ms. Simran Chavan, Ms. Mokshada Nemade and the topic taken by the winners was “Rise of RoboGami”.

Faculty Development Programme on “Data Science”

Department of Information Technology and Computer Science, PHCASC organized a one week Faculty Development Workshop on “Data Science” from 16th to 21st October, 2019. This workshop was organized under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission for Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), Government of India in association with Shivaji University, Kolhapur. This programme was aimed at providing a rich technical knowledge about Data Science which is a blend of various tools, algorithms and machine learning principles with the goal to discover hidden patterns from raw data. It provided comprehensive Data Science training to all the participants. 32 participants from academia attended the workshop.

The FDP started with the lighting of lamp by dignitaries Mr. Proyas Bose (Data Science Trainer for Day 1 and Day 2), Prof. Binit Kumar (Vice-Principal) and a few faculty members of department of I.T. / C.S. in Conclave I, Pillai HOCL Campus. Prof. Babitha Kurup, Coordinator (B.Sc. C.S.) welcomed Mr. Proyas Bose and all the participants to the FDP. Prof. Binit Kumar felicitated Mr. Proyas Bose, who made familiar to the participants the need of Data Science as companies need to use their data and grow their business every day. Sessions on Day 3 and Day 4 were conducted by Mr. Aniket Thorave, while those on Day 5 and Day 6 were conducted by Mr. Swapnil Jawahire. On the 6th day, an online examination was conducted to assess the learning of participants which saw top three scorers – Ms. Nirali Verma, Ms. Babitha Kurup and Mr. Binit Kumar. It was followed by awarding certificates to all the participants by Mr. Swapnil Jawahire. The event concluded with the delivery of vote of thanks.


Workshop on “Make Your Own Personal Assistant”

I.T. Club of department of I.T. / C.S. in association with TechFryDay organized a Two Day Workshop on “Make Your Own Personal Assistant” for the students of first Year and second year I.T. / C.S. departments. The workshop was aimed to employ students with Industry-level skill, it taught students to make their own personal assistance, to design and code for different speech to text application. It also helped students to explore Python, Python libraries and Python for Speech Recognition. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sagar Mahajan, CEO, Techfryday. The workshop for second year students was conducted on 15th and 16th November, 2019 which saw participation of 26 students and for first year students it was conducted on 18th and 19th November, 2019 which saw participation of 48 students. The event concluded by distributing certificates to all the participants.


Add On Course – Deep Fry Web Development using LAMP Stack

Department of B.Sc. I.T. / C.S. in association with TechFryDay organized an Add On Course for students of B.Sc. I.T. / C.S. on Deep Fry Web Development using LAMP Stack from 10th to 22nd June, 2019. This workshop was conducted by Mr. Sagar Mahajan from TechFryDay. The duration of this workshop was 45Hrs. A total of 34 students attended the workshop. It focussed on various technologies such as Bootstrap, JQuery, PHP, MySQL, RESTAPI, Postman API Testing Tool. It also focussed on areas with the help of which students would be able to develop their final year projects through web applications. At the end of the workshop certificates were distributed to all the participants.


Poster Competition

A Poster Making competition was organised by Department of B.Sc. I.T. / B.Sc. C.S. at Pillai HOC College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Rasayani on 30th August, 2019. The aim behind conducting this competition was to check the creative and artistic skills of the students.

The theme was “Changing Face of Digital India”.

The students were asked to express their ideas through paintings and sketches. Students participated with immense zeal and enthusiasm and made very beautiful posters which gave the message on India is getting transformed into digital empowered society.

The judges of the competition were Mr. Priyesh Keekan, Mr. Hardik Dave and Mr. Lalit Patil.

The decision regarding the winners was made on the basis of following criteria:

  • Relevance to the theme
  • Accuracy and clarity of the message
  • Poster quality
  • Overall presentation

The following students bagged the first, second and third position in the poster making competition:
